Our Jess wins 'Designer of the Future' award at The Sunday Times Style in the City

Fashion:Labs Jessica Butcher, 17, entered the competition launched by Style in the City, the top fashion and beauty event, which takes place across Birmingham from 24 -26 September.

The competition called for budding designers to create an image for the 10,000 goody bags handed out to visitors at the event.
As well as winning tickets to the event, Jessica will see her design displayed in a window at House of Fraser in Birmingham throughout Style In The City.

Jessica, a student of fashion at Fashion:Lab in Birmingham, said:
“I’m so excited to have won the competition and be part of such a great event. When I was making the design I thought carefully about the colours, I wanted them to blend well lifting the image off the page and to definitely not be too traditional. I think the image has real impact and I can’t wait to go to the event with my Mum!”

Hannah Oussedik, Show Manager for Style In City said,
“The judges were all really impressed with the high standard of entries to the Designer of the Future competition. Jessica just edged ahead with her striking, iconic design which will sit perfectly on the show goody bags. Style In The City is proud to be supporting new talent, and we are delighted to be able to showcase these young during the event.”

Well done Jess we are all very proud of your achievement!

Join London College of Fashion Professor Reina Lewis and guests Hadley Freeman, Wayne Hemingway and Safia Minney to discuss the impact of ethics on matters of style. Is green still the new black or will the credit crunch make cheap clothes a renewed priority for hard-pressed consumers? As fur makes a return to some catwalks, we consider whether new smart fabrics will redefine luxury, and explore how technological advances in the design and delivery of fashion open up the bespoke experience to new consumers. All that and the politics of pleasure.
